Academia is a much better place for a sexual predator to hide than the Catholic Church because......
1. You have access to an unlimited pool of barely legal victims.
2. Your victims have limited sexual experience, and are thus more easily manipulated into doing what you want them to do.
3. They'll be flattered by your attention/compliments and thus even more vulnerable to your predatory "grooming" behaviors.
4. You have automatic authority and power over them.
5. You'll have lots of alone time in which to "mentor"/groom your victims.
6. If anyone notices how much time you are spending with students, you are simply being "available". You might even earn an "Undergraduate Professor of the Year coffee mug" for your efforts!
7. Your victims are likely to be away from friends and family, perhaps for the first time in their lives. They will be easy to isolate.
8. Your victims will not tell their friends and family because they will be ashamed of their relationship with you.
9. Your victims will not report you because they will be afraid they will not be believed and/or you could retaliate by destroying their academic careers.
10. If they do report you, they will be ignored by the University administration.
11. Your victims won't have the financial resources to legally challenge the University team of attorneys.
12. When you get bored, you have an automatic out so you can go find fresh meat.
13. At worst, you might receive a written warning from your employer.
14. Unlike high school teachers who would be imprisoned for the same behavior, and employers who could be sued-- thanks to tenure, you have lifetime employment and you cannot get fired no matter what you do!
15. If they don't do what you want and keep quiet about it, you can withhold recommendation letters, grades, money they've rightly earned, or simply spread rumors about them to destroy their academic careers.
16. Unlike a job that they could simply quit, your victims likely have too much money invested in their education to be able to transfer or leave school. Your victims are trapped and can't leave.
17. Victims may not realize it is sexual harassment until many years later.
18. Even if they do realize it, they won't talk about it because they will be ashamed.

College and graduate students are low-hanging fruit for the highly intelligent, manipulative, narcissistic sexual predator.
If you are a college or graduate student, YOU ARE EASY PREY for a predatory professor.
Predatory Professors are everywhere!
